Coach Profiles

Jenny Townsend

Principle Coach

I was introduced to Calisthenics at the young age of 2 by my Aunty Mrs Betty Gale from Minerva Calisthenic College Victoria. I went through all age groups from Tinies through to Seniors where I competed in the Championship Section at Royal South Street.

When I moved to Queensland I started my own club in Brisbane called Wynnum Calisthenics Club for a period of 10 years coaching all age groups. I also coached solo’s and graceful girls with many successful results. During this time, I had the privilege of being a competitor of the first QLD state team and co coaching the QLD national team the following year.

After moving to the Gold Coast, I attended Helensvale Calisthenics Club as a competitor and coach for a period of 11 years.

Favourite Calisthenics Moment:

Being involved with a state national team, also being a part of the first ever Master team for the Pan Pacific Masters Games, something that I hope all my girls inspire to do through their journey of Calisthenics

*Establishing Leilani Calisthenics Club would have to be my biggest highlight, as I could pass on a legacy of Calisthenics not only to our pupils but to my daughter Melanie and one day my granddaughter Stephanie as my family did for me. I am honoured to be doing this and feel that I am living the dream.

Hi my name is Melanie and I’ve been involved with Calisthenics since I was 2 years old, in various aspects of the sport.

Over the past 28 years I have competed for the Wynnum Calisthenics Club and Helensvale Calisthenics Club in all age groups, Duo, Solo and Graceful sections, before having a few years off to start a family. I returned to Calisthenics in 2015 at Rosemore Calisthenics Dance College in the Masters section competing in both team and graceful sections. In 2000 I had the honour of representing QLD at the nationals in the Junior team. I have learnt a lot from highly respected individuals within the sport and will be using this knowledge with Leilani Calisthenics.

Favourite Calisthenics Moment:

In the Inters section in 2017 I was honoured to watch my girls compete so bravely given we had lost girls only weeks before the state comps.

*Opening a club with my mum has been a dream of mine since i was a little girl. In 2017 we will begin this journey together.

Sue Mooney

I started my Calisthenics life after emigrating to Australia from England with my family. My first team I coached was in South Australia at the age of 15. My team won the aggregate… I was bitten by the coaching bug. My family then moved to Sydney and with help from my Mum… I opened my own club South Sydney. I coached there for 36 years and taught all age groups and many National Graceful girls and solos. I also coached 8 State teams. I moved to the Gold Coast in 2006 and have coached teams and solos and gracefuls.

Favourite Calisthenics Moment:

Sydney hosted the Olympics and a large group of my girls were invited to take part in the opening ceremony.

*I am very honoured to have been invited to be on the coaching team for Leilani and I look forward to the exciting times ahead
